What Link Should I Use for the WhatsApp Icon?

Use a WhatsApp "click to chat" link in the format https://wa.me/<number>, where <number> is your full phone number in international format with only digits. For example: https://wa.me/15551234567.

How to format your number

Start with your country code, then the rest of your number. Leave out the plus sign, any leading zeros, brackets, dashes and spaces.

  • Use: https://wa.me/15551234567
  • Don't use: https://wa.me/+001-(555)1234567

Paste the link into the Whatsapp field on the Social tab, then click Create Signature (or Update Signature).

The number must have an active WhatsApp account, or the chat won't open.

Can I include a pre-filled message?

Yes. Add ?text= to the end of the link, followed by your message with spaces written as %20:

  • With your number: https://wa.me/15551234567?text=I%27m%20interested%20in%20your%20listing
  • Without a number (the person picks who to send it to): https://wa.me/?text=I%27m%20interested%20in%20your%20listing

Prefer a button instead of an icon?

The Extras tab has a WhatsApp Message button that adds a "Contact me" button to your signature. You don't need to build a link for it:

  1. Enter your number in WhatsApp phone number using digits only, for example 15551234567.
  2. Optionally, type a message in the pre-filled message field, such as "Hello, I would like to request a quote". Write it normally; htmlsig formats it for the link.
  3. Save your signature.

You can use the icon, the button or both. For other social networks, see How to add social media links to your signature.
